ReferralNet Agent - Configuring Settings

This version of the agent is no longer current.

General Settings

Installation Mode

This shows what mode the Agent was configured for at installation time. The only way to change this setting is to reinstall the Agent.

Polling Interval

Configures the frequency the Agent checks for new messages in the ReferralNet account(s).

You cannot configure the Agent to check for new messages more frequently than every 15 minutes.

Startup on login

If checked, the Agent automatically run when you log into Windows. This option is only available when the Agent is installed as a tray application.

Receive Attempts

The receive attempts option dictates the number of times that the agent will try to process the incoming message before retiring it to the folder location specified in the On Failure section of the Receiving configuration panel. If an SMTP Server has been configured, a notification message will be emailed to the specified recipient email address alerting of the agents' failure to successfully process the message.

The default retry interval is set to 4, but can be extended up to a maximum of 8.

Log File

The Agent writes diagnostic information to the log file specified here.

You can use environmental variables as part of the filename, for example:

%APPDATA%\ReferralNet-Agent\ReferralNet.log

Will save the log file into the user's roaming profile.

Once the log file grows to more than 500k, it will be rotated through a maximum of ten rotated log files. In other words, you will never have more than 5 meg of logs.

On Failure

If you want the Agent to send an email should an action fail, you need to specify your SMTP server and the administrator's email address.

SMTP Server

You will need to locate and enter the host name of an accessible SMTP server that enables the ability to connect and send email messages. If the server does not utilise the standard port of 25, you can provide this information to the agent by using the convention of smtp_server:specific_port.

If the specified SMTP server requires authentication, the appropriate user credentials can be supplied to the agent by checking the My SMTP server requires authentication option.

Email Address

This needs to be the specified email address that you would like the notification email messages to be sent to. You may want to use an email address that is associated to a distribution list, ensuring that notifications receive maximum visibilty.

Send Test Email

Once you have configured the required SMTP server details, you should always confirm that the agent is able to successfully send email messages by clicking on the Send Test Email button. If the agent is unable to send messages to the configured SMTP server it will display an error message, otherwise you will receive a confirmation dialog that a test message was sent successfully. Finally, you will need to confirm that the email was received successfully through the use of your normal email client application.

Proxy Authentication

If the Agent detects that you're using a proxy server which requires authentication, you will automatically be prompted to enter the credentials. It will also detect if your proxy credentials are no longer valid and will re-prompt you for your username and password.

You can use the Settings screen to change existing proxy credentials.
