ReferralNet Agent - Configuring Medical Director 2 and 3 Integration

If the Agent detected Medical Director 2 or 3 is installed, and the Agent has been installed in Tray mode, you can optionally configure the Agent to integrate directly with Medical Director.

Email Client

As this functionality works by replacing your default email client with ReferralNet, you need to inform the agent what your real email client is in order for it to redirect some functions to it.

Alternatives

In some situations there may be existing software which integrated with Medical Director using the same mechanism. As there can only be one default email client, the Agent gives you the ability to make the alternative clients available.

In most cases you should not select "normal" email clients here (such as Outlook), as there's no way to guarantee messages sent via alternative networks will be delivered securely.

Configuring Medical Director

Medical Director may require reconfiguration to complete the integration:

1. Use "Simple MAPI"

Select Simple MAPI on the File –> Preferences –> Advanced tab from within the Letter Writer.

2. Customised Inbox/Outbox Folders For MD

  1. Click Options in Tools menu.
  2. Select the Investigations tab.
  3. Click Setup data transfer.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click Add for Ulpload/Download Software Installed.
  6. Enter ReferralNet for the 'Enter Software Description' and ensure the 'Enabled' tick box is ticked.
  7. Select the 'Import Directory' and 'Export Directory' using the full network path.
  8. Click Save.

3. Augment your template

Augment your template to include the following text and fields (generally at the end of the document):

Patient Name: [[Patient Demographics:Surname]], [[Patient Demographics:First Name]] DOB: [[Patient Demographics:DOB]]
Recipient: [[Addressee:Name]] Referred by: [[Doctor:Name]] Date of Report: [[Miscellaneous:Date]]

Replace the [[placeholders]] with the matching text from the Template Fields list.

For example, replace [[Patient Demographics:Surname]] with the Template Fields –> Patient Demographics –> Surname field.

Sending from within Medical Director

You can view videos of how ReferralNet integrates with the Medical Director Practice Management software from our product integration register.

Select the addressee from the Medical Director address book

Select File→Email→Send from the main menu or click on the Send Email icon to bring up the send email dialog.

The ReferralNet provider directory will then activate, performing a pre-search based on your addressee selection from the clinical address book. You can perform additional searches if the pre-search function fails to return any recipient results, finally clicking on the send button once you have located the desired recipient entity.

Limitations

Due to limitations with Windows itself, the default email program is a system wide setting (see KB309292, KB315240).

This means that if Medical Director integration is enabled, it will be enabled for all users of that machine. This will have a noticeably larger impact on environments where Terminal Services is used.

Microsoft resolved this issue with Windows Vista and higher (Windows 6 and above).

Receiving with Medical Director

Medical Director has limited capabilities when parsing and displaying received Rich Text Format (RTF) documents, so it is very important to always configure an additional receive action as a backup in the event when a letter has been obviously compromised by this limitation.

* Don't forget to add and configure the additional action by following the agent backup scheme.
