Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the minimum requirements to run the Agent?

The agent requires:

  • Microsoft Windows XP or higher
  • 256 MB RAM

Note: the agent supports:

  • Windows Server 2003 and 2008
  • Windows 32 and 64 bit installations

The agent also requires access to ports 80 and 443.

If an error occurs when receiving a message can the agent notify someone?

Yes, the agent software can be configured to send the error message to a specified email address, you will need the host name of an accessible SMTP server and a valid email address. The configuration for the email notification can be found in the Settings option of the configuration screen.

Can I configure the agent to the point that I will rarely need to touch it again, and if so, how?

As the agent software normally acts as a proxy between sending and receiving applications, that may change their requirements during their normal life cycle, this is obviously outside the control of the agent. There is however a standard configuration that will accommodate the majority of conditions that will be presented to the agent over time, only requiring ajustment when out of band message types need to be accommodated in a more specific way.

There are some key configuration practices that need to be followed in order to gain a semi future proof install in regard to out of band message types and account management activities, these being;

  1. Always go through the Installation Checklist prior to installing and prior to leaving the site.
