Best Practice is designed and developed by Dr Frank Pyefinch, the pioneer of clinical software in Australia. The finches of the Galapagos showed Darwin the way to the theory of evolution. The soaring finch logo is the personal stamp of Dr Frank Pyefinch and represents his personal guarantee that the Best Practice software will continue to evolve in response to the particular needs of Australian doctors.
In order to facilitate around the clock, 24x7 receiving of a practice's correspondence through ReferralNet, it is highly recommended to install a single instance of the agent configured for receiving only, onto a server or workstation that is rarely shut down. The agent instance should be configured to run as a windows service so it does not terminate when user accounts are logged out.
There is a specific preset available for Best Practice, so make sure to select this preset when configuring the receive action for this agent installation.
* Don't forget to add and configure the additional action by following the agent backup scheme.
* If you are using ReferralNet Agent version 3.3.0 and above, use the Archiving Feature instead.
* If you are using ReferralNet Agent version 3.3.0 and above, use the Archiving Feature.
Interactive sending is deemed to be the most natural of the sending patterns within Best Practice, primarily due to some key limitations of the Best Practice applications letter writer module.
How to configure
Non-Interactive sending using Best Practice has both negatives and positives' associated with it. In regard to deployment it is far less demanding when compared with the interactive deployment pattern, but more demanding on the users of the Best Practice clinical application, primarily in the context of address book maintenance.
In a nutshell, this deployment pattern by description does not interact with the a human actor at all, simply awaiting and processing HL7 message files that arrive into a specific folder that the ReferralNet agent has been configured to monitor.
How to configure
Once logged into Best Practice, click Configuration on the Setup menu.
Click Results import on the left menu in the Configuration window.
Only select the 'Import investigation reports on this computer' check box and leave the rest unselected.
Configure the 'Report file search paths:' by clicking the Add button and pointing the path to the folder where ReferralNet is dropping the incoming messages.
If you want to change the location where incoming messages appears in Best Practice, click the Set storage locations button and configure the details.
Click the
Save button.

Once logged into Best Practice, click Configuration on the Setup menu.
Click Messaging on the left menu in the Configuration window. Click Add and configure Messaging Provider and click Save. Next click Save in the Configuration window.
If messages need to be sent from a central Best Practice server, configure the 'Path for outgoing messages' to the local folder of the server using the full network path and select the 'Use the same path on all computers'.
If messages need to be sent from individual computer and not from the central Best Practice server, configure the 'Path for outgoing messages' to the local folder of the computer and select the
'Use the same path on all computers'. Make sure all the computers including the server has the same folder and path created locally. This configuration will cause Best Practice to drop outgoing messages in the local folder of the computer and server.
'Path for incoming messages:' needs to be configured but need not be the actual path as Best Practice will not use the configuration here if the Results import has been configured.
Select the check box 'Use as default messaging provider'.
To avoid confusion to the sender (when sending a message, Best Practice will pop-up a window indicating message has been sent to a folder resulting the sender thinking the message has already been sent when ReferralNet has yet to pick up the message), the

Best Practice supports the ability to export both the content and context of a patient letter as a HL7 REF|I12 message file.
The HL7 message is generated from the Best Practice Letter writer module, triggered by the clicking of the Export as HL7 file menu button (refer below). It is this HL7 file that is processed by the ReferralNet agent software, and depending on the desire of the user can be managed by the agent software in two distinctly different ways;
