Microsoft Word

If Microsoft Word is the product of choice for the management of all relevant correspondence, ReferralNet provides seamless integration for this very scenario through a single installation of its' ReferralNet Agent product.

Sending Correspondence

The ReferralNet Word plugin supports the ability to send both native Microsoft Word documents and HL7 messages. If there is a requirement to send correspondence to someone in the medical profession, the HL7 option will most likely be the more palatable for the recipient. If however the recipient is not part of the medical community or does not have a HL7 aware clinical application, then sending a native Word document is the appropriate choice.

Additional notes and configuration instructions

Please note that ReferralNet Microsoft Word plugin integration does not work on Microsoft Office/Word 64-bit edition.

* If you are using ReferralNet Agent version 3.3.0 and above, use the Archiving Feature.

Receiving Correspondence

In order to receive incoming message correspondence, the agent needs to be configured to fetch desired message types down from the specific ReferralNet account.

If you know that you will likely be receiving correspondence in the form of HL7 messages from members of the medical community (General Practitioners, Specialists, Allied Health etc), the ReferralNet agent provides an option that negates the requirement for Microsoft Word to be HL7 aware. You can request that the agent software extract the human readable letter that is encapsulated within the HL7 message and save it to your desired folder using key patient identifier details provided within the HL7 message as the filename.

If additional common message types are expected, such as Word documents, PDF etc, then you can simply create an additional recieve action specifying these explicitly in the attachment wildcard section.

* If you are using ReferralNet Agent version 3.3.0 and above, use the Archiving Feature.

Notes

  • Do not use Ms Word Art and other fanciful features of Ms Word for your letter writing.
